About Us

Donor Conceived Australia (DCA) is a national organisation dedicated to supporting donor-conceived people, their families, donors, and the broader Australian community. With members across Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, Canberra, Hobart, and Darwin, we work to ensure that every donor-conceived individual has access to the truth about their origins, emotional support, and legal protection through nationally consistent legislation.

Our Mission

The mission of Donor Conceived Australia is to empower and connect donor-conceived people across the nation while promoting honesty, transparency, and equality in the field of donor conception. We believe every person has the right to know their biological heritage and to access information that is crucial for their sense of identity, emotional well-being, and health.

Our purpose is to bridge the gap between donor-conceived individuals, parents, donors, and medical professionals by providing accurate information, peer support, and strong advocacy for policy reform. We aim to change outdated practices that have caused harm and replace them with compassion, integrity, and openness.

Our Vision

We envision an Australia where all donor-conceived people are treated equally, regardless of when or how they were conceived. Our goal is to ensure that every individual can access identifying information about their donors, understand their genetic background, and be supported by a system that values truth and human rights.

Through awareness campaigns, education, and collaboration with lawmakers and fertility professionals, DCA is working towards a future where transparency is the foundation of all assisted reproductive technology (ART) practices.

What We Do

  • Support: We offer national online and in-person support groups for donor-conceived people, allowing them to connect, share experiences, and find solidarity. DCA also provides referrals to trusted professionals who understand the complexities of donor conception.
  • Information: DCA educates families, medical professionals, and the public through articles, webinars, newsletters, and workshops on sperm donation, egg donation, and surrogacy in Australia.
  • Advocacy: We advocate for fair and consistent donor conception laws across Australia. Our advocacy is guided by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Geneva Principles on Donor Conception and Surrogacy.
  • Networking: We facilitate safe, open networking spaces for donor-conceived individuals to connect with others and explore shared experiences through the DCA Networking Group.

Why Our Work Matters

For decades, donor conception in Australia was surrounded by secrecy. Parents were advised not to tell their children how they were conceived, leading to confusion, identity struggles, and emotional harm later in life. Donor Conceived Australia was founded to correct this legacy by promoting truth, transparency, and support for those impacted by donor conception practices.

We believe that honesty builds stronger families and that every person deserves to know their story. By strengthening awareness and legislation, we aim to ensure that the next generation of donor-conceived individuals grows up in an environment of respect and understanding.
