Initial support team
The Donor Conceived Australia Initial Support Team provides support, information and referrals to donor-conceived people throughout Australia.
Our Support Team consists of passionate Peer Support Volunteers who have lived experience of being donor conceived. Regardless of where you are in your discovery journey, we aim to ensure that you have access to the supports you need.
Whether you have been aware that you are donor conceived since you were a young child or have had a late in life discovery, it is a common experience for donor conceived people to grapple with complex feelings relating to identity, navigating family relationships – both existing and new, physical and mental health and much more.
When you first find out that you are donor conceived, it is normal to have a variety of questions about what it all means and where you can go for more information. Our peer support volunteers offer a friendly ear to help guide you through those first few days and where you can find more information, if that is what you are seeking.
How does it work?
Upon receiving your enquiry, one of our Peer Support Volunteers will contact you via phone or your preferred method to provide initial support and link you with the supports that best suit your needs.
Our Peer Support Volunteers will speak with you about the range of supports available to you.
After speaking with you to identify your goals and needs, we will link you with the relevant supports and complete any required referrals. You will also receive a follow up email providing a summary of what we have discussed with you, as well as information on how to access further information or resources.
